Personal Power Part 1: Power 101

Personal Power 101: You Already Have It

Personal power isn’t given—it’s claimed. Here’s what it is, what it’s not, and three micro-steps to start using it today.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” — Eleanor Roosevelt Part 1 of 3 · Personal Power Series

What personal power is (and isn’t)

  • Is: An inner capacity to choose thoughts, actions, and responses—renewable and equal in all of us.
  • Isn’t: Authority, force, status, or controlling other people.

Why it matters

When you act from your values (instead of reacting to people or past events), confidence rises, decisions get cleaner, and life feels self-directed.

Quick checks

  • Internal compass: Name 3 values you’ll live today.
  • Choice language: Swap “I have to” for “I choose to…” (or “I’m not choosing to, because…”).
  • Presence: Take 3 slow breaths before you send, speak, or decide.

Folk wisdom to remember

You can’t pour from an empty cup. Refill briefly, daily.

Act now (60 seconds)

  • Write: “I am the kind of person who… (one sentence)”.
  • Put it where you’ll see it before tough moments.
